Garden Update: Autumn is Here!

The seasons have changed again, and autumn is making itself known, in our garden!

Although it is still fairly early in the Autumn season, a few of our trees are already starting to turn bright colors. So far, the most colorful is the small lacy maple, pictured above.

Most things in the vegetable area are done for the year. However, we're still digging up lots of potatoes and some of the herbs are available year-round. We also have a lot of very late blooming marigolds.

This time of the year, also means that it is mushroom season! There are quite a few edible mushrooms growing around the property, like these "shaggy manes," although you have to be quick and get them when they're young otherwise they just become a black inky mess.

With winter not far away, the next project in the garden mostly involved taking out old dead plants, and making the beds ready for next year's growing season.

Although this is the "dormant" season we're entering, the garden is never really dead.

We have left some of the season's green beans to dry and be saved for next year's garden. Much of what we grow comes from our own heirloom seeds, harvested and dried, year after year.

Hopefully next year's garden will be better than this year's somewhat modest results.

Till the next, thank you for visiting! All photos are my own, usually taken in nature, from the nearby beach, or around our property.
