Game: Rise Fig -

in CCC • 15 hours ago

As promised, I tested the game ‘Rise Fig' by @alexmove
This game consists of two parts:

  1. Mahjong
  2. Garden (Sowing, growing and harvesting)

Mahjong
Is good for the brain and here it provides water for your plants, or rather, it supplies the energy you need to carry out actions such as sowing, harvesting and planting.

Seeds/plants
Next to sowing your seeds and grow them into plants, there’s something extra: you can cross-breed plants with your own varieties or those of other players.

Pets
You can let them look after, or rather, protect your garden/grove or other players’.

For protection, you have 3 pets:

  • the hedgehog (attack: chooses the best beds or grove),
  • the rabbit (defends your beds, grove or neighbours) and
  • the squirrel (the courier).
You must feed these animals with seeds. You can quickly end up with a lot of seeds, but not all seeds have the same value (give the same energy). So you can run out of seeds quite quickly.

The Start

When I started the game via the link, I chose Telegram. After accidentally pressing the wrong button, the game disappeared for me and I couldn’t get back in. I was given a link and told that I had to install the app on Telegram, something that didn't show before I started playing.

I started with the seeds because that’s where the game began. I don’t do too much here, and I’m not going to sit around waiting until I can harvest. You can do that, but… You need water, so you have to play Mahjong to get it, but you can also watch adverts, which I did several times to be able to harvest (not that I watch, I simply turn my phone upside down and do something else or wait a certain time).

No, this isn’t the Easter Bunny, but the one defending the seeds!

It’s been a while since I last played Mahjong, and this isn’t quite the same as what I’m used to. Here you have some different options. In short: it is visible when you can play the bricks.
I suppose you don’t just forget how to play the game. On average, it took me 60 seconds to complete a level; I click on the bricks in a continued rhythm. I’ve reached level 127 and I’m in first place, so I could do with a few fellow players.

If it comes to this game there are some extras.
If you are stuck you can use:

  • shuffle,
  • magnet (no idea what that is or does),
  • hint or
  • undo, but not unlimited.
See at the bottom of the game.
With me this does not work very well (no idea what causes it either, but is not really that I need it).

And no, the game cannot be played without internet.

Issues

  • The game seems to close if I hit ???
After that It cannot start again unless I restart my phone. I tried out the game on two different phones and it happened with both.
  • There's a part of the garden game still in Russian. This makes it a bit harder to understand, what is be going on here.
  • if you really like actively do the garden game it will be hard to do with Mahjong only. I had to "watch" the advertisements a lot of time while trying to harvest. Are there enough levels?

I think the game looks fun. At first, I thought it would be a simple game, but there are extras that keep it fun to play. As I said, I do have my doubts about the water supply, which I’m currently really short of. I can’t even harvest one plant. Anyone who’s forced to watch adverts (9+) just to be able to harvest one plant, will probably give up pretty quickly.

Ooo you are reviewing an actual game? The cartoons look really cute. The planting game feels like Tamagotchi back in the 90s where we care for an egg haha. And the mahjong one is to choose the same tiles right? You know how to play the real mahjong? Wow teach meeee! Ooo we just login with our steemit account? I am intrigued. Oh but the Steemit part is not ready and some words are in Russian. Do we get to collect something by playing?

Are you going to have a go at it too? Because I need some neighbours to swap plants with, and I’d also like to see how far I can get.

You can only watch adverts 10 times a day, and I don’t think that’s enough to provide enough water. If you use those 10 times, you can at least harvest your plants, and on top of that you’ve also got to play Mahjong. Given that you only get five units of water per level and you already need 20 or 30 units of water for a harvest, you can work out for yourself how many levels you need to play. I’m now on level 137, hahaha, and I’m still short of water, even though I’m not doing much. I don’t want any extra land either – just three plots – and then I’ll just move them around a bit until they tell you to move them. Once moved, they either go to the slaughterhouse, but I reckon they can also go to the grove, and then you get water for them too. I haven’t even fed my pigs today, and I still need to do that, but I think I’ve got far too few seeds; no idea where they’re hanging out, and I actually need seeds that’re worth more than 1 point. I’ll send you my link.

As for Mahjong, it’s indeed just a matter of finding the second matching tile. It’s not that difficult – even a toddler can do it. Also, you just need to look a bit ahead every now and then, because even if you can’t choose the tile, it might be half-hidden somewhere, and sometimes you just have to take it first. Another important point: if you have a section with a very high stack – say, in the middle – try to make it lower, otherwise you’ll run into trouble towards the end. I think it’s very easy to learn at the start, which is nice. Unlike proper Mahjong or the versions I see online, I find this one more varied. After a few tricky ones, there’s usually something easy to follow, and as this is, of course, a game where you need water, that’s a nice touch. If you were to spend an hour on every level, it would quickly stop being fun.

Let me know how you get on with Mahjong. People say it’s good for brain training and that it helps you sleep better, but it doesn’t really work for me. I just tap away whilst thinking about something else at the same time, hahaha. There’s also a little timer, so you can see exactly how long each game takes.

If it comes to Tamagotchi that one needed more care

It’s almost like a real vegetable garden, lol—there’s the struggle against pests and the anticipation of the harvest. However, the person who created the game clearly hasn’t kept rabbits, lol; you have to keep them away from the garden beds, otherwise they’ll eat everything! That said, if you look at rabbits as a source of fertilizer, their manure is considered some of the best—and you can use it on your garden beds without needing to compost it first! :)

I was also quite surprised that it’s rabbits you have to defend; for a moment I’d thought it might be her, but no, rabbits. I reckon hares are stronger and bigger, and that picture looks more like a hare to me. Personally, I wouldn’t really see the point in defending these animals – I reckon they’d just run riot, kick everything to smithereens, and it’s a right mess anyway, plus you’d have to deal with the rest of a surplus family – what more could you possibly want?

If you play along for a bit, at least I’ll have a few neighbours to send my rabbit to, and something else for the plants to crossbreed with – they’re nice too, because right now I’m stuck with whatever Ai offers me. Incidentally, I’ve also found a little trick here: by refusing to agree, simply going back and leaving the plant there a bit longer, then trying again a few times until I’m offered something different. I reckon that’s the only way to get a different breed for a change – something with more points – because that rabbit and that hedgehog all need feeding too. I’m also short of water, so I’ll have to come up with something for that as well, because I don’t know how many levels there are, but I’m already on 137 or higher and I don’t actually get that much water (5 per level).

cc @marblely – the game’s developer @alexmove, has also organised a competition for anyone who writes a review.

I’m not sure how things will turn out—perhaps I’ll eventually find the time to explore this area as well—but for now, I just don’t see any opening in my schedule :)
In any case, I wish you and everyone else involved the best of luck, and thank you for the invitation!
