Got lied to by Google 🤭
I have never actually been to a train station or an airport, but whenever I see images like this, my curiosity is piqued.
I tried to figure out what kind of doors these actually were; there were so many of them that I was left confused as to how they even operated. I’ve been to large supermarkets—the kind found in malls—but I’ve never encountered entrances as complicated as these.
Usually, a simple revolving door opens with just one turn; could it be that all these doors are located in the Netherlands, or perhaps somewhere else entirely on the other side of the globe? I don’t really trust Google, as it often gives dishonest answers.
Once, while traveling by train, we tried to find an address using Google Maps. We ended up going in circles—traversing the same street three times—yet we still couldn't locate the actual destination.
We eventually called the owner of the place we were looking for, and it turned out we were on the right street, but we needed to turn into a side alley that wasn't even on Google Maps. Ever since then, I’ve been a bit skeptical about how accurate Google Maps really is! 🤭
Even if it tells me to "turn right," I certainly wouldn't follow that instruction—there’s a deep river on the right side! I’m hardly going to drive straight into the water, am I? 😝.
Ooo I know how you feel! Once I tried Google Maps to walk to a mall in the city and ended up walking one big circle back to where I started! But it was also my fault because I wasn't (still am not) good at reading maps. Hahah! I am quite hopeless with directions.

I actually never use Google Maps myself; I reckon the hardest bit – and I’ve noticed this quite a lot with that friend too – is that it often starts with: ‘Go to this street, blah blah blah’, but if there aren’t any street signs, it doesn’t get you very far. On top of that, you often don’t know which way is north, east, south or west, so you can’t even head in that direction. The only thing to do is walk a bit first and then see which way that stupid little arrow is pointing; if it’s the wrong way, you just have to walk the other way. But even then, there are places that Google Maps can’t find, even if you’re standing right in front of them. Incidentally, the Dutch Roadside Assistance service is no different; even if you’re standing right under a street sign, they’ll blithely claim that the street doesn’t exist and leave you stranded.

Yup yup.. and yes you are right, we don't know north south east west in the first place haha. And the worst is when there are 2 or 3 roads in the same direction at first and slowly splits, then you do not know which road you are suppose to take in the first place and usually I would end up taking the wrong one. And yes, roads that no longer exist haha. Sometimes I just decide to whack it and I somewhat believe that all roads lead to somewhere that can lead back to somewhere that I am familiar with... haha.

I think it’s also true that all roads lead to the same point – or perhaps it’s just something you recognise. We often just walk in a circle, and that’s how most places are laid out: there’s a centre somewhere, and the roads radiate out from it like sunbeams, with other roads criss-crossing between them. That Google car drives around everywhere too, and a lot of the footage is quite old. I reckon the average sat-nav, which is actually quite outdated, is still more up to date – at least when I use it. It works perfectly, and at least I don’t have to worry about Google seeing what I’m up to. I believe they’ve cut down a whole lot of forests in Finland again to make way for new data centres, for

That was pretty much my experience with Google Maps when I was in Italy with a friend. She’d switched it on on her phone to find our way back to the car park. We ended up walking round for hours – well, I was in a battery-powered wheelchair, so naturally we just kept going round in circles. Believe me, just asking for directions is much quicker.
These turnstiles lead to the station; many stations in big cities have them, but smaller stations don’t. This means you can only enter the station with a special pass in your name, which you also use to pay for your train ticket, or you have to pay using your phone.
One downside is that, even if you’ve got plenty of time to spare, you can’t go to the shops inside the station, because once you go through the gate, you’ve already paid for a train journey – even if you don’t board until a few hours later.
If you’re familiar with the station and there are terminals on the platforms for checking in and out, you can first go to a platform, check out there, go shopping, and then, of course, check in again before you actually board the train.
I do doubt whether it really helps to prevent fare evasion, though, as I’ve seen plenty of times when a gate for a wheelchair is open and people simply walk straight through. There are also quite a few people caught on the train travelling without a valid ticket, who are then either removed or given a fine.
I suspect these gates are also there to keep homeless people out, but of course they can climb over them too…

You definitely have to get used to using Google Maps. The maps aren’t always that accurate, but they do help. I’ve lost my way many times chasing some rather irregular directions.
Benar sekali, kalau kebetulan benar berarti kita sedang beruntung, dan jika salah berarti sedang kena tipu saja oleh google 🤭
Sometimes Google Map is problematic for me too
