Apple
Sunlight streamed through the D-shaped opening, casting its shadow along the sides. Ray, after leaving his mother at the entrance, sat on the bench in the triangle structure, looking through to the other end. Not much of an end. Just an exit. And if he walked a distance more, he would reach a cafe.
Ray took out his Apple phone from his left pocket, unlocked the phone and tapped on the "Photos" icon. He tapped on the year and swiped through the photos. He looked for photos of him with his father. Ray had one that he liked very much, the one when they went camping and fishing.
His father taught him some life skills during the trip, on setting up tent, starting a camp fire, cooking instant noodles and fishing. Ray remembered he listened attentively to everything his father shared and tried to remember every step. But, at eight years old, Ray was disappointed with himself for not remembering everything his father taught. Ray was looking forward to the next trip.
The bench was starting to feel hot, so Ray decided to move to the cafe. At the exit, he hopped from one triangular paving stone to the next on his way to the entrance. Ten hops, he counted. Why was he hopping? He wasn't entirely sure. For some strange reason, he simply felt like it.
Reaching the cafe, Ray peered through the window. There didn't seem to be many customers inside, and and no one seated outside. But it was getting quite hot outside, so Ray pushed open the door slowly and stepped in. The sounds of soft bells jingled marking his arrival.
Ray walked to the counter and stared at the display of cakes and pastries. Then, he looked up to the menu at the front and read silently to himself.
"Apple crumble", "apple pie", "apple sorbet", "apple cake", "apple fritters".
That was quite a wide variety of apple desserts and drinks, Ray thought. He looked around and he realised the cafe specialised in apples as the walls were displayed with posters of apples too. Ray, not an apple fan, decided to order a glass of Coke with the card that his mother gave him for meals purchases.

INKtober #1: Apple

I like the simplicity of this post. Sometimes the most familiar things, like an apple, can become interesting when viewed from a different angle or captured with attention to detail. Thanks for sharing this creative perspective. 🍎👍
You forgot to mention: apple juice, apple tea, apple sauce, apple syrupe, apple chips...are you sure he doesn't like apple? Strange they do sell cola.
Yeah, I am a hater too.
These apples..
