THE ZHIRO HUNGER GAMES
THE REAPING
When the masquerade roars,
No one walks.
Everyone runs away,
No one looks back.
The street shakes with sound,
The game has started.
If your heart is not strong,
You will run and leave your shoes behind.
THE BILLIONAIRE TRIBUTE
First to enter the arena,
Alhaji Cowrie.
Head to toe in old money,
Cowries and shells,
With a small chief on his head.
His hunger is simple,
His hunger is money.
He did not come to dance,
He came to make us bow.
THE SLAY QUEEN TRIBUTE
Next to enter,
The Slay Queen.
Blue feathers, red feathers,
Waist like a basket,
Face beat like makeup.
A man behind the fine face,
Dancing like a woman.
His hunger is simple,
His hunger is attention.
All the fine boys follow him,
He is the Capitol's favorite.
THE BUSH BOY
Then the village network went off.
Pure raffia.
No design.
Just original bush.
He does not speak English.
His hunger is simple,
To scare all the children.
And he succeeded.
THE TWO BROTHERS
Plot twist!
The two bush boys
Hugged each other
Instead of fighting.
In the real Hunger Games,
They would have been killed for this.
Here we call it,
"We no dey fight our own."
THE VILLAIN
And then the villain entered.
Covered in a thousand spoons,
Eyes red like blood,
Holding a machete.
His name is "No Nonsense."
His hunger is fear.
Even the man holding him
Used only one hand.
Everyone was afraid.
THE FINAL BOSS
Everyone became silent.
Smoke filled the air.
The Ancestor entered.
Twelve feet tall,
Dressed in black,
With fire on his head.
He does not dance.
He judges.
The other masquerades
Became small in front of him.
This is the President of all Tributes.
THE WINNER
But the last masquerade said,
"Hold my palm wine."
Four horns,
Leopard skin,
White fur,
Red sequins,
And two hundred bells.
He is rich and fine,
Wild and fearful,
All at once.
He is Gen Z.
He won.
Not because he was strongest.
But because he was hungriest.
Moral:
In the Zhiro Hunger Games,
Nobody dies.
We just dance.
Then we eat together.

This is really cool @beckymia! I love how you poetically described each of the characters for this festival. Is this a yearly event? A lot of work is put into the costumes I see. We just had something similar here known as the hungry ghost festival. Am wondering if it is similar with the one you showed here.
It's actually the New Yam festival, we do it every year. I just used it for the prompt.
About the costumes, they are not that expensive actually, you can get most of the stuff here locally. Like the bush boy, it's just made from dried raffia palm leaves. But yes, it's very stressful and time-consuming to make, Like the villain with plenty spoons, that one must have taken them days.
The festival is our traditional way of thanking God for a good harvest and celebrating the first yam of the season. It's a big celebration and there is plenty of food to eat 😊
