INKtober 2026 - Ogre?
I’m not really into ogres; of course, the first thing that springs to mind is ‘Shrek’, but I’m not really into drawing him either.
I’ve been doodling a bit in my sketchbook with a pencil, but the idea just didn’t come to me. Of course, if I take a close-up photo, it does look quite something: the little figure in the background is actually nicer than the one in the foreground, but when I think of ogres, for some reason I think of trolls and Lapland. But I’m not actually very good at drawing trolls either, and whilst I was scribbling here and there, I suddenly realised I could just draw a few lines and colour it in a bit, and actually I find that much more fun than all that faffing about beforehand. In any case, I tried something different.
I still don’t really enjoy colouring in. This was done with watercolour paint again, but I’d actually felt I should work with acrylics and a sponge. It was lack of time I didn't follow my feeling and expressed that.
This time I used that liquid pen again that leaks and smudges. I’d have preferred to use the dip pen, but I didn’t, because I don’t actually have a small pot to put the ink in and I didn't feel for searching something small.
In this case, I don’t mind too much that this liquid pen smudged again when it got a bit wet; it actually suits the piece quite well.
All in all, I don’t think the drawing is bad, and I’m also wondering if it can be varnished. Perhaps I’ll give that a go at some point, but not now, because there’s obviously a good chance the painting disappears, although the risk is lower as I used bamboo paper instead of watercolour canvas.
You can see my attempts below.

This turned out so well! I had no idea what an ogre was until I looked it up. That ogre should feel lucky you painted it, haha
It is just a fairy tale character like a giant. It looks the way you like it or feel it.
Oh that sounds interesting.
Most of the pictures I saw looks like your sketch. You did amazing.
Siempre que pensás en ogros te sale Laponia con trolls, y eso ya dice algo de tu cabeza. Lo del papel de bambú en vez de lienzo no lo sabía, me lo anoto por si alguna vez me larga a pintar.
Well this coloured ogre turned out to be abstract. What came out was what part ofvyour feeling atvthe moment, You didn't follow your real wish and didn't use the kind of pen you wanted, but ai like it very much, the glitter is a nice touch.
The sketches are clearly more conventional ogres. Myself of course thought of Shrek, but I wanted more Warrior Fiona. Didn't do any of them.
Since no one knows what an Ogre looks like, it doesn't matter we draw or paint. It is about the feeling a word provokes not about realistic drawing.
Your drawing is very cute. Once we start thinking it changes the process just if we freewrite.
funny how that leaky pen smudge ended up working out so well in the end since it usually just ruins everything
Perhaps it worked because it gave the Ogre it's dirty look 🤔
I will not use it again. No idea what it is good for. Perhaps a fineliner, but right now I like the dip pen more (or better no pen at all).
