Assalamu'alaikum everyone.
I am @sahriarabir from #Bangladesh

Hello friends!

Sending my sincere greetings to everyone—I’m back to share another one of my drawings. The subject I’ve chosen to draw today is quite fascinating. It was widely used in the distant past, but nowadays, it’s almost never seen. In the local dialect, it’s called a "hurricane" (a kerosene lantern). Back when electricity wasn’t available, people used these lanterns—filled with kerosene—to provide light for their daily needs. With the passage of time and the advent of modernity, these items have all but disappeared. I was very excited while working on this piece, as I had never drawn such an old relic before. I’m really happy with how it turned out, and I hope you all enjoy it!

Drawing materials:

  • Art paper
  • Pencil
  • Eraser
  • Colour pencil
  • Marker pen

Step by step drawing process:

Step 1:

I began by sketching the metal rods surrounding the lantern, as well as the handle at the top. I started by outlining the main frame of the lantern.

Step 2:

Next, I drew the full body of the lantern, including the base where kerosene is poured, the section that holds the glass, and the glass itself.

Step 3:

In the third step, I applied a "sea green" color to certain parts of the lantern’s body. I chose this color to suggest that the lantern is old and has developed rust over time.

Step 4:

Then, I colored the entire lantern brown. Since rusted objects typically take on a brown hue, I used this color to emphasize the weathered, rusted appearance of the lantern.

Step 5:

Finally, I used a black marker pen to add an outline to the entire lantern. After completing the outline, it felt as though a living, breathing hurricane lamp stood before me. Once I carefully applied the color combinations, I felt I had successfully brought it to life.

Step 6:

Finally, I completed the drawing by adding my ID name and the contest theme next to the hurricane lamp. I am truly delighted with how it turned out.

Relics from the past can still be found in various places today. These artifacts remind us of the hardships people once endured in their daily lives. In our modern era—thanks to the availability of electricity—we often overlook or fail to grasp the true significance of such objects. Yet, there was a time when the hurricane lamp served as the only refuge against the darkness. While some used candles, the hurricane lamp was a safer alternative, making it the preferred choice—a relic that remains with us to this day. I have grown quite fond of this piece, and I am very happy to have had the opportunity to draw it. I wish everyone well and good health. Goodbye!

Thanks alot for reading my post .
Good luck to all.

Best regards

Hello, thanks for the mention! I wouldn’t have wanted to miss your post.

We have a fellow user here on Steemit who owns one of these lamps; she treasures items like this. These devices still work, and in the midst of energy crises, they are a real treasure.

I really liked your drawing—and the coloring is just spectacular! Beautiful work. I hope you keep participating in Inktober.

Hola, gracias por la mención. No me habría gustado perderme tu publicación.

Thank you very much for your nice comment. I will definitely try to continue participating in Inktober. Good luck to you.

Upvoted! Thank you for supporting witness @jswit.

good job👏

Thank you

This brought back childhood memories. We had this exact lantern at home when I was little. You drew it so beautifully, especially the color and shading. it really looks like an old one from village and the green made it unique.

Thank you so much
