Hello dear friends,

The word "flimsy" means weak, fragile, easily broken, or insubstantial.
The character I’ve chosen is a scarecrow-like figure—featuring visible stitching and a tall, elongated hat. While it might appear peculiar or even sturdy from the outside, it is, in essence, quite fragile. Yet, there is a certain success in life to be found in standing tall—even amidst such fragility—and moving forward with a smile.
The prompt for the ninth day of Inktober is "Flimsy."
I searched online for inspiration for today’s theme and came across this image. After looking into it further, I gathered some details.
It turns out this character is inspired by the Scarecrow from The Wizard of Oz—depicted with straw spilling out from its hat, arms, and legs.

I will now describe the process of how I created this drawing.

The materials I used for today’s artwork include:

✍️ White paper
✍️ Pencil
✍️ Eraser
✍️ Gel pen
✍️ Colors

Step 1

I began by sketching the shape of the character’s head and hat. I made the hat rather tall and slightly bent, and added some visible stitching details across it.

Step 2

In the second step, I drew an elongated face beneath the scarecrow's hat. I aimed to create a playful expression using eyes, a long triangular nose, and a smiling mouth.

Step 3

In the third step, I drew the scarecrow's crooked arms and the neck area.

Step 4

In this step, I drew the character's torso, clothing details—such as buttons, central patterns, and a waistband—along with loose-fitting trousers and uniquely shaped shoes. I positioned the legs to suggest that the character is dancing or standing in a whimsical pose. I also added small details near the bottom of the trousers, reminiscent of the straw that makes up a scarecrow.

Step 5

In this step, I erased the initial pencil lines and completed the face by applying a blend of black and light red colors.

Step 6

Next, I added black outlines across the entire body—including the arms—and incorporated subtle touches of red ink.

Step 7

Finally, I drew the lower portion of the legs. I completed the artwork by applying a blend of red and black ink to this area as well.

Finally, I hope everyone enjoys my artwork today.
Wishing everyone all the best, I shall take my leave now.

Thanks a lot for reading.
Good luck to you.
