INKtober 2026 | Cactus - DAY 4 🌵

Good afternoon, my dearest #Steemit readers! Happy Monday to everyone—I hope you’re off to a great start to the week. This is your friend Manuel here, and I’m really excited to share a new #steemexclusive digital illustration that I finished yesterday exclusively for the platform. This time, I wanted to continue with the #Inktober2026 challenge, drawing inspiration from the theme for Day 4, which is “Cactus.” I’d already worked on this piece but wasn’t able to post it until yesterday, so I’m sharing it with you today; This time, I once again created a piece in grayscale (black and white), focusing on a desert landscape featuring detailed cacti under a cloudy sky with hills in the background. I hope you really like it, and here’s a glimpse into the creative process behind this drawing so you can appreciate it even more!:

Muy buenas tardes mis queridísimos lectores y lectoras de #Steemit, feliz lunes para todos, espero que estén teniendo un excelente inicio de semana. Por aquí los saluda su amigo Manuel, muy emocionado de compartirles una nueva ilustración digital #steemexclusive que terminé el día de ayer de manera exclusiva para la plataforma . En esta oportunidad, quise seguir con la dinámica del #Inktober2026, inspirándome en la temática de la palabra del dia 4 que es "Cactus", la cual ya tenia trabajada, pero pude publicar el día de ayer, así que se las traigo hoy; en esta oportunidad nuevamente trabajé una pieza en escala de grises (blanco y negro), enfocándome en un paisaje desértico protagonizado por detallados cactus bajo un cielo nublado y colinas al fondo. ¡Espero que les guste mucho y aquí les dejaré un poco del proceso de creación de este dibujo para que lo aprecien mejor!:

PROCESS / PROCESO

For the concept and character design, I chose an atmospheric landscape composition centered around a cluster of prickly pear cactuses standing proudly in an arid desert setting. I drew the cactuses with rounded segments, small spiky details at the top, soft textures along their pads, and smaller rock and vegetation elements scatterings around the ground to complement the scene.

Para el concepto y diseño del personaje, elegí una composición de paisaje atmosférico centrada en un grupo de cactus tipo nopal que se alzan en medio de un entorno desértico y árido. Los dibujé con pencas redondeadas, pequeños detalles de espinas y brotes en las puntas, texturas suaves en su superficie y algunos elementos de rocas y vegetación baja dispersos en el suelo para complementar la escena.

For the details and rendering, I worked carefully on smoothing the grayscale gradients and shading the dark volumes of the cactus pads using soft airbrush techniques. I detailed the contrast between deep dark shadows and smooth light highlights to give the plants a three-dimensional form, while polishing the soft outlines of the desert hills in the background.

Para los detalles y el renderizado, trabajé cuidadosamente en suavizar los degradados en escala de grises y sombrear los volúmenes oscuros de las pencas del cactus mediante la técnica de aerógrafo. Detallé el contraste entre las sombras profundas y los reflejos de luz suaves para otorgar tridimensionalidad a las plantas, mientras pulía los contornos suaves de las colinas desérticas al fondo.

For the lighting and atmosphere, I set the scene under a dramatic sky with stylized clouds floating against a faint sun or moon in the background. The overhead light source casts soft reflections on the upper edges of the cacti and clouds, creating a serene, rustic, monochromatic atmosphere that’s ideal for the Inktober theme.

Para la iluminación y la ambientación, ubiqué la escena bajo un cielo dramático con nubes estilizadas que flotan frente a un sol o luna tenue al fondo. La fuente de luz superior proyecta suaves reflejos en los bordes superiores de los cactus y las nubes, logrando una atmósfera monocromática serena y rústica ideal para la temática del Inktober.
